"Former CSK Pacer Reflects on Bowling to MS Dhoni during IPL 2025: The Insider View"
Tushar Deshpande, the Indian cricketer, is making a determined comeback to the field after a significant setback last year. The right-arm fast bowler underwent a major ankle surgery in October 2024, which kept him out of action for a considerable period.
However, Deshpande's resilience and determination are evident as he has been making waves in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. His impressive performance for the Rajasthan Royals, particularly his penultimate over against Chennai Super Kings, has caught the attention of many.
Deshpande conceded just six runs during that over, a feat that showcased his grit and skill. Interestingly, three of those six deliveries were bowled to MS Dhoni, a first for Deshpande in an official game.
The young bowler admitted that he was trying to impress Dhoni and bowl his best ball to him. Despite never having bowled to Dhoni in an official match before last season, Deshpande expressed confidence, stating it was always pressure bowling to the former Indian captain.
Deshpande's focus, however, is not just on IPL success. He aims to play Test cricket for India and is focusing on staying fit after losing time off the game last year. He marked his return in the IPL by bowling 18 overs in Chennai's scorching heat against Haryana in a three-day Buchi Babu fixture.
The 25-year-old cricketer has also set his sights on the Duleep Trophy and hopes to deliver there to push his case for selection in the two unofficial Tests in Lucknow. Furthermore, India A is set to square off against Australia A at home from September, and Deshpande hopes to be part of this series.
Deshpande's rehab demanded more time, preventing him from playing for Mumbai during the knockouts last season. Despite this, he stated that he was ready for any challenge, including playing in England. His recovery efforts were necessary due to upcoming international tours, he added.
Before joining the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, Deshpande played for Mumbai Indians. His fitness is the main focus now, as he looks to make up for the lost time and continue his impressive form. Deshpande wants to play the game and play for India again, and his recent performances suggest he is well on his way.
