Nancy Knowlton and David Martin Honoured with Meritorious Service Medals

In a prestigious ceremony on March 21, the CEO of Nureva, Nancy Knowlton, and CTO David Martin, were awarded the Meritorious Service Medals. The awards, presented by Governor General Mary Simon, are among the highest Canadian distinctions that can be bestowed upon individuals for their exceptional contributions to improving educational opportunities in Canada and abroad.

The recipients are globally recognised for their expertise in technology adoption in education. Nancy Knowlton, in particular, is renowned for her work in this field, having co-founded SMART Technologies in 1991, which remained active for 25 years. The company is best known for the development of the SMART Board interactive whiteboards, which transformed millions of classrooms worldwide.

Knowlton and Martin went on to found Nureva in 2014, a company that holds more than 40 patents for its innovative Microphone Mist technology. This technology is a key component of their solutions in the Pro AV and IT arenas.

Nureva currently employs a team of 160 people and has been serving the needs of educators globally for the past 30 years. Knowlton stated that they are honoured to receive the distinction and be included in the company of distinguished Canadians.

David Martin, with a deep understanding of technology trends, has been instrumental in the success of Nureva. Both founders share a passion for the value of education and its role in changing lives and creating a better world.

Nancy Knowlton, who was also recently inducted into the SCN Hall of Fame, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating that they have dedicated their careers to making a positive impact on education. The Meritorious Service Decorations, which recognise remarkable Canadians for their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions that bring honour to Canada, are a testament to their dedication and hard work.
