Fresh eateries are now under construction in Walnut Creek, providing new dining options for the community. Here's what you need to know.
New European-Style Food Hall Coming to Downtown Walnut Creek
In exciting news for food enthusiasts and locals alike, a new project is set to transform a location in Walnut Creek. The Foundry, a European-style food hall, is being developed by BH Development and will be led by local restaurateur Brian Hirahara.
The project, located at 1250 Locust Street, was acquired by Hirahara's firm under a long-term city agreement. The Foundry will span approximately 24,000 square feet over two stories, creating a vibrant addition to the downtown area.
The early plans for The Foundry include an open-air central courtyard, complete with seating, a koi pond, and an events stage. The architecture of the food hall will blend exposed brick, timber, and metal in a plaza-like layout, featuring communal tables and string lights.
The Foundry will host about 23 vendor stalls, offering a diverse range of culinary delights. In addition, a rooftop restaurant and bar will provide patrons with stunning views of the city. To cater to families, a children's play area will be included in the design.
For wine and beer lovers, separate "Foundry Wine" and "Foundry Brewery" kiosks will be available, offering a selection of local and international favourites.
However, despite being approved, the construction of The Foundry has been delayed. No official date for the commencement of construction has been announced yet.
Meanwhile, in a less positive turn of events, Original Joe's, a new restaurant in town, had to close its doors last week due to a fire. Workers are currently at the Original Joe's building for smoke remediation and damage clean-up, and the restaurant's operation is scheduled to reopen in Spring 2024.
