Frohnmaier to Assume Role of Prime Minister

It appears that Markus Frohnmaier, a close confidant of Alice Weidel, is strongly favored to lead the AfD in the forthcoming regional election. He maintains the flexibility to continue in the Bundestag if coalition participation doesn't transpire.

Markus Frohnmaier Elected as AfD's Top Candidate for Baden-Württemberg State Election in 2026

Markus Frohnmaier, a Member of Parliament from Böblingen, has been chosen as the AfD's top candidate for the 2026 state election in Stuttgart/Hechingen. The decision was made unanimously by the local speakers of the AfD on Saturday in Hechingen.

Frohnmaier, who has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017, is considered a close confidant of the federal party and parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel. He has held one of the four deputy positions in the parliamentary group since March.

Anton Baron, the AfD parliamentary group leader in the state parliament, welcomes Frohnmaier's possible candidacy. Baron expressed his "unrestricted trust" in Frohnmaier, highlighting the unity within the AfD in Baden-Württemberg. Frohnmaier stated that the party is "as united as never before."

However, Frohnmaier acknowledged the internal disputes in Pforzheim and Constance, but emphasised that they do not reflect the state of the state party.

Markus Frohnmaier will present his government program on May 9. If the AfD is not involved in the government in Baden-Württemberg in 2026, Frohnmaier intends to keep his Bundestag mandate. In the event of a successful election, Frohnmaier will also take on the role of the chairman of the AfD's state parliamentary election campaign for the 2026 state election in Baden-Württemberg.

Frohnmaier can be contacted at our website or via m.schwarz@our website. Voters can look forward to Frohnmaier's campaign speeches and government program in the coming months, as he gears up for the 2026 state election.
