Fulham manager Marco Silva criticizes the "incredulous" VAR call following their loss to Chelsea in the derby match.
In the heated derby between Chelsea and Fulham, Fulham manager Marco Silva found himself embroiled in a post-match controversy, expressing his dissatisfaction with several contentious decisions made during the game.
Silva was visibly upset both during and after the match, particularly over a disallowed goal by Josh King in the 22nd minute and the subsequent penalty conversion by Enzo Fernandez for Chelsea. The disallowed goal was due to a foul by Rodrigo Muniz in the build-up, as determined by VAR.
The Fulham manager questioned the application of the rules, stating that it is difficult to understand the decisions and how they follow the rules. He also expressed a desire to be on the touchline for the next match to help his team, but remained cautious about speaking further due to potential punishment.
Silva was also concerned about the handling of stoppage time, specifically eight minutes being added before Joao Pedro scored the first goal for Chelsea. He believes that the game should have stopped earlier than the stated eight minutes of added time.
The referee who officiated the match was Michael Salisbury. Silva mentioned a potential issue with the game not stopping when it should have, according to the rules, during the first corner.
Despite the controversy, Chelsea celebrated their derby victory, with the controversial penalty decision adding to their triumph. The defeat leaves Fulham winless after three Premier League games.
Silva, however, remained optimistic, expressing a desire to explain many things about the match but did not elaborate further due to potential consequences. He ended by stating that VAR is not meant to re-referee the game and that he would prefer not to speak further on the matter.
As the Premier League season continues, fans can expect Silva to continue advocating for greater consistency from referees and VAR in the hopes of fairer gameplay for his team.
