Chelsea Extend Unbeaten Run in Premier League Amidst VAR Controversy

Chelsea's unbeaten start to the Premier League season continued, extending to four games, following a draw against Fulham. The match, marked by several controversial VAR decisions, saw Chelsea take the lead in the ninth minute of stoppage-time at the end of the first half, thanks to a penalty converted by Enzo Fernandez.

The penalty was awarded after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled that Ryan Sessegnon's arm was not a foul when he blocked a cross in the area. This decision, and others throughout the game, sparked anger from Fulham's boss, Marco Silva.

The first goal of the game came beyond the scheduled eight minutes of stoppage-time at the end of the first half, with Joao Pedro rising unchallenged to head home from a corner. Fulham's response came through Josh King, but his goal was disallowed due to a VAR decision that deemed Rodrigo Muniz's collision with Trevoh Chalobah as a foul.

Chelsea's second goal was also influenced by VAR. Liam Delap, leading Chelsea's overhauled attack, was forced off after less than 15 minutes due to a hamstring injury while chasing a long pass. His injury is likely to keep Cole Palmer out of England's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, and it may force Chelsea to cancel Nicolas Jackson's proposed loan move to Bayern Munich, as Delap's absence could leave them short-staffed up front.

Tyrique George, replacing the injured Delap, came close to scoring on the stroke of half-time for Fulham. Bernd Leno saved George's close-range effort at the near post, ensuring Chelsea maintained their lead.

Meanwhile, Chelsea had already allowed Christopher Nkunku to join AC Milan this week, and Alejandro Garnacho, an Argentine winger, watched from the stands at Stamford Bridge after finalizing his move from Manchester United.

The additional seconds added on at the end of the first half caused more frustration for Silva and Fulham, who were left to ponder the VAR decisions that went against them. Fernandez's calm conversion from the penalty spot left Fulham fuming, as they were unable to find an equaliser.

The unbeaten run continues for Chelsea, but the controversy surrounding the VAR decisions in their match against Fulham is likely to be a topic of discussion in the days to come.
