Funds earmarked for construction of new police stations, amounting to millions - Funds for Constructing New Police Stations Distributed in Abundance
The Ministry of Interior and Finance in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has announced plans to construct new police stations at seven locations across the state, with a total budget of 1.92 billion euros from the federal investment program for infrastructure and climate neutrality.
The decision comes in response to frequent complaints about inadequate building conditions for the police in the region. The construction method for the new stations is designed to significantly shorten planning times.
One of the models for the new police stations will be the Heringsdorf station, completed in 2017. This modern, sustainable building features a space layout tailored to the needs of the police, barrier-free access, and the use of energy-efficient technology such as photovoltaics and air-source heat pumps.
Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD) described the investment in modern police buildings as "a clear signal of appreciation for the daily work of the officials". Finance Minister Heiko Geue added that this benefits both the construction industry and the police officers and citizens on site.
Individual new buildings are planned for Waren and Güstrow due to special requirements. Construction of these stations, based on the Heringsdorf model, is set to begin in 2026. The police station in Heringsdorf on Usedom will serve as a blueprint for future police station construction in Gadebusch, Ueckermünde, Bad Doberan, Sassnitz, and Friedland.
The federal government has a Special Fund for New Police Buildings, and a total of 250 million euros has been allocated for internal security and population protection measures, including police station construction. However, there are no search results providing the total amount of federal investment funds allocated specifically for the construction of new police stations in Mecklenburg-Vorpompern under the Federal Investment Program for Infrastructure and Climate-Neutral Urban Development.
No mention was made of the involvement of the BMF (German Federal Ministry of Finance) in the construction of the new police stations. The construction costs for the new stations have not been disclosed at this time.
The announcement regarding these plans was released in Schwerin. The new police stations are part of broader efforts to improve internal security and population protection in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
