The city of Osnabrück is set to host a four-day Jewish Cultural Festival from 4th to 7th September 2025, and the climax of the event will be the performance of the unique Sirba Octet ensemble.

The Sirba Octet, a group of friendly musicians hailing from Paris, will perform the closing concert on 7th September. The ensemble, which consists of musicians who have previously played in philharmonic orchestras, offers a fascinating insight into Jewish music culture.

The repertoire of the Sirba Octet is centred around traditional Jewish melodies from Southeast Europe, classically arranged. Violinist Richard Schmoucler, a member of the ensemble, has been instrumental in creating a unique sound in Jewish music with the group. His musical inspiration stems from memories of family celebrations and the melodies his mother and grandmother hummed.

The name of the Sirba Octet signifies the historically close connection between Jewish and Roma musicians. The term "Sirba" refers to a popular folk dance in Southeast Europe, traditionally accompanied by Klezmer melodies, which the ensemble revives in their performances.

Various venues across Osnabrück will host performances during the festival. Readings will take place at the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, film screenings at the Cinema Artehouse, and concerts at the OsnabrückHalle. There will also be opportunities for encounters at various other locations during the festival.

Intendant Avi Toubiana expressed his enthusiasm about securing the Sirba Octet for Osnabrück, praising their approach, quality, shared playing style, and sound experience. Tickets and further information for the Jewish Cultural Festival can be found at www.juedisches-kulturfestival.de.

This is the first time the Jewish Cultural Festival is taking place in Osnabrück, making it an exciting event for the city and its residents. The closing concert of the festival promises to be a memorable occasion, featuring genuine musical highlights performed by the Sirba Octet.
