In a significant development, the city of Pforzheim, under the leadership of Mayor Peter Boch, has agreed to implement an income-dependent fee system for kindergarten (Kita) spots, following the passage of the "Good Kita Law" draft presented by the Federal Minister for Family Affairs.

The decision comes amidst a wave of cancellations and a shortage of spots in the Kita system. Among the cancellations are double registrations, registrations from the Enz district, and registrations for children who already have a Kita spot but wish to change Kita. Despite these cancellations, the city still faces a shortage of 618 spots.

Mayor Boch expressed his satisfaction with the city's proposed system change now being legally established. The meeting participants agreed that only the variants with income-dependent fees should be pursued further. Four such variants were presented at a recent meeting, with details to be developed after the inauguration of the new social mayor.

The new system is expected to address the issue of missing spots more effectively. Out of the total calculated missing spots, 353 are for children under three, and 265 are for children over three. The developed proposals will be submitted to the city council for decision, with the involvement of the carriers and parents' representatives in the development process.

While the city is moving forward with this change, the identity of the new social mayor responsible for implementing the innovative daycare fee system has not been explicitly named in the available sources. The public eagerly awaits the details of the concrete proposals for the new income-dependent fee system, hoping for a solution to the ongoing shortage of Kita spots in Pforzheim.
