In an exciting turn of events, the Danish game development studio IO Interactive, known for their work on the Hitman series, has announced their latest project - a James Bond game titled 007 First Light. Scheduled for release on March 27, 2026, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

007 First Light deviates from the traditional World of Assassination formula, offering a unique blend of action-adventure gameplay. The game is powered by IO's overhauled Glacier Engine, which promises a more cinematic and story-driven experience.

The game's protagonist, James Bond, finds himself in a chauffeur role for a 'black tag' operation. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn as Bond embarks on an optional side mission reminiscent of a Hitman mission, scoping out surroundings.

The game features a grand chateau in the mountains as a large sandbox environment. Bond infiltrates a building by climbing through an upper-floor window, surprising NPCs, but manages to pretend to be part of the staff and proceed without raising an alert.

007 First Light showcases detailed and expressive animations, with Bond performing impressive stunts during combat. For instance, he can kick a shotgun into his hands mid-fight. Combat sequences include a shoot-out, and Bond can stun enemies by lobbing his gun at their head.

The game also features a thrilling car chase sequence, with Bond driving a Jaguar Land Rover and later an Aston Martin. The game's cinematic third-person action-adventure style bears a resemblance to that of Naughty Dog.

007 First Light presents an origin story for a young Bond before he earns his 00 licence. The game is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch in 2026, offering players a fresh take on the iconic James Bond franchise.
