Gaming giants Wynn Resorts and Boyd Gaming are reportedly considering Georgia for potential casino expansions.

In a significant development for the state of Georgia, a proposal for the introduction of sports betting and casino gambling is set to be revisited in January 2023. This potential shift in Georgia's gaming landscape has sparked excitement among industry leaders and advocates alike.

If the proposal gains the necessary supermajorities in both chambers, the measure could find its way onto the statewide ballot as early as November 2026. The prospect of legalised gambling has been a topic of discussion in Georgia for many years, yet the state has yet to successfully expand its gambling offerings.

The proposed resorts are expected to be situated in prime locations beyond Atlanta, Savannah, and the vicinity of Hartsfield-Jackson airport. While specific sites have not been definitively identified, industry heavyweights such as Wynn Resorts and Boyd Gaming have expressed interest in investing in Georgia's casino market should legislation permitting casinos be passed.

Midtown and Downtown Atlanta are also seen as potential sites for destination properties. However, the exact locations of potential investments by Wynn and Boyd, among others, remain undisclosed at this time.

Advocates of the proposal believe that the introduction of casinos could lead to the creation of thousands of jobs and generate substantial tax revenue for the state. The influx of these industry titans into Georgia's market is a testament to their readiness to enter the state if casinos are adequately regulated.

Despite Georgia's past attempts to expand its gambling offerings, the state has yet to see significant progress in this area. The revisitation of this proposal in 2023 presents a fresh opportunity for Georgia to join the ranks of states with thriving casino and sports betting industries.
