Gaza City's tall building targeted by Israel as they expand their military operations
In the heart of Gaza City, a significant development unfolded over the weekend as the Israeli military carried out a series of strikes, including the destruction of the Sussi Tower. The Defense Minister of Israel, Israel Katz, declared that "the bolt has now been removed from the gates of hell in Gaza."
Prior to the strikes, warnings were issued to minimise harm to civilians. However, the residents of Gaza City, including a local who expressed his fear, "My children are terrified, and so am I. There is no safe place - we only hope that death comes quickly."
The Israeli military has been intensifying its bombardments and operating on the outskirts of Gaza City. In a bid to ensure the safety of civilians, the Israeli military called on Gaza residents to evacuate to the Al-Mawasi area. In response, the Israeli military established a humanitarian zone in this area of Gaza's Khan Younis.
The Sussi Tower, the targeted high-rise building, was identified as a structure used by the Hamas terrorist organization, according to the Israeli military. This assertion was backed by the identification of significant Hamas terrorist activity within high-rise buildings in Gaza City. The Israeli military's leader, General Chief of Staff Ejal Zamir, is commanding the operation in the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations estimates that nearly one million people live in the area where the strikes occurred. Aid groups, however, warn that a large-scale evacuation could worsen the humanitarian crisis. The humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi includes vital facilities such as field hospitals, water pipelines, desalination facilities, and food supplies.
Regrettably, Israeli strikes on Friday reportedly resulted in the deaths of 19 people in and around Gaza City. The Israeli military has also been criticised for striking humanitarian areas throughout the conflict, including Muwasi, which was previously declared a safe zone.
In light of these developments, the Israeli military has announced plans to expand its military activities in the Gaza enclave. The focus of these operations will be on striking structures in Gaza City that have been converted into terrorist infrastructure. The Israeli military's actions and statements regarding these operations continue to be a topic of international discussion and concern.
