Gazans Suffer Horrific Losses during Attempts to Reach Aid Centers: At Least 15 Dead
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian territories, concerns are escalating as the situation in Gaza and the West Bank continues to deteriorate.
Israel has recently suspended daily pauses in fighting to allow the delivery of aid in Gaza city, a move aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis that has gripped the region. However, the International Committee for the Red Cross has stated that Israel's plan to evict one million people from Gaza city is "impossible" to carry out in a safe and dignified manner.
The worsening situation in Gaza is further highlighted by the latest figures. Sixty-two people have been killed in Israeli strikes, bringing the death toll to 63,371 with 159,835 injured. Ten more deaths, including three children, have been recorded due to Israel's starvation policy, with at least 332 people, including 124 children, dying of malnutrition.
The draft resolution, presented by the 10 non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, expresses concern about Israel's decision to expand its military operation in Gaza and reaffirms its rejection of any attempt at demographic or territorial change in the Gaza Strip. The resolution calls on Israel to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on humanitarian aid into Gaza and to ensure its safe and unhindered distribution.
Meanwhile, tensions are not limited to Gaza. In Lebanon, one person was killed in a drone strike in Sir Al Gharbiyeh, Nabatieh district. A funeral was held in Beirut for two Lebanese soldiers who were killed while inspecting a crashed Israeli drone.
The US has taken a controversial stance, revoking visas for members of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) seeking to attend the UN General Assembly. This move has been met with opposition from France and Spain, with French officials expressing their disapproval and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressing support for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas after the US denied him a visa to attend a UN gathering of world leaders.
Elsewhere, Iran claims to have arrested eight people suspected of spying on senior military figures for Israel's Mossad. Reports also suggest that the Israeli military claimed to have killed a member of Hezbollah's elite Radwan force named Ahmed Naim.
As the international community watches the developments unfold, a ship carrying humanitarian aid destined for Gaza has set sail from Abu Dhabi, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the ongoing crisis. The situation in Gaza and the West Bank remains a pressing concern for the global community, with calls for peace and an end to the violence growing louder each day.
