Georgia Tech appoints a new leader for its cybersecurity department
New Chief Information Security Officer Joins Georgia Tech
Joseph "Joe" Lewis has been appointed as the new Chief Information Security Officer and Vice President of Information Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His deep expertise in cybersecurity is expected to significantly strengthen the university's information security posture.
Lewis will head the institution's security strategy and operations, leading the university's cybersecurity team. His responsibilities will include maintaining cybersecurity practices, ensuring that data and other information assets are adequately protected, and ensuring compliance with all cybersecurity-related rules.
Leo Howell, the university's chief information officer, is pleased with Lewis's appointment. "Joe's leadership will be crucial for Institute-wide information security and risk management at Georgia Tech," Howell said.
Lewis holds a Ph.D. in cybersecurity leadership, an executive master's in public service and administration, an MBA, and a bachelor's degree in business information systems. He has also earned a CISO certificate from Carnegie Mellon University.
Prior to his new role, Lewis served as vice president of cybersecurity solutions at the technology firm Leidos. He has also held roles with the Department of Energy and the Army.
Lewis's leadership will be instrumental in supporting Georgia Tech's mission of innovation and research, while ensuring the protection of the university's valuable information assets. His appointment marks a significant step forward in Georgia Tech's commitment to cybersecurity.
With Lewis at the helm, the Georgia Institute of Technology is poised to maintain a strong cybersecurity posture, providing a secure environment for its students, faculty, and staff to pursue their academic and research endeavours.
