The Georgia Bulldogs kicked off their 2023 season with a resounding victory, defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd with a score of 45-7 at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.

UGA's offense was in top form, with quarterback Gunner Stockton throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more. Stockton completed 14 passes out of 24 attempts, covering 194 yards in the air, and had 73 rushing yards on 10 attempts.

Nate Frazier and Dwight Phillips Jr. combined for 107 rushing yards in the game, with Phillips scoring the only other rushing touchdown besides Stockton. Phillips also made history by scoring the first touchdown of UGA's season.

Zachariah Branch, an incoming transfer from the University of Southern California, made an immediate impact, scoring a 47-yard touchdown for Georgia. Branch led the team with 95 yards in the game, having three receptions.

Marshall's running back Jo'Shon Barbie scored a touchdown with around 10 minutes left in the game, preventing a shutout for the Herd. However, it was not enough to match the Bulldogs' offensive prowess.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs' defense held Texas quarterback Arch Manning to just one touchdown. The No. 1 Texas Longhorns lost to the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes with a score of 14-7, marking a significant upset in college football.

The Bulldogs will continue their season by hosting Austin Peay on Saturday, Sep. 6, with a kickoff at 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Stadium. The team will then head to Knoxville for a Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers, marking the start of SEC play.

WANF is broadcasting live pregame and postgame shows from Athens, featuring former Bulldog QB Jake Fromm and sports director Baillie Burmaster.

In other SEC news, No. 24 Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri, and Mississippi State all won their respective contests. Meanwhile, No. 8 Alabama suffered a shocking loss to the Florida State Seminoles with a score of 31-17, marking Alabama's first season-opening loss since 2001.

As the season progresses, the Bulldogs will look to build on this strong start and continue their march towards college football glory.
