German football club FC Memmingen begins their English week competition
In the upcoming weeks of the Regionalliga, FC Memmingen and SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing will lock horns in a crucial battle for survival. This will be the first time these two teams face each other in their history.
FC Memmingen, currently maintaining their unbeaten away record in the season, has shown promising form with two wins and a draw in Aubstadt. On the other hand, SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing, promoted to the Regionalliga for the first time in 2022, will be aiming to cause an upset.
The home team, FC Memmingen, has collected seven points from their first five matches, while Hankofen-Hailing has five points from six games. The recent form of both teams suggests a tight contest, with Memmingen drawing their last two games against Schwaben Augsburg and Fürth II, with scores of 2-2 and 1-1 respectively.
Coach Tobias Beck of FC Memmingen has been strategic in his approach, resting several regular players for the game, with focus on the upcoming league game against FC Memmingen. Meanwhile, SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing boasts some experienced players, with new signing Patrick Choroba from SC Verl and SG Sonnenhof Großaspach having previous experience in the 3. Liga.
The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) held a championship ceremony for FC Memmingen before their Regionalliga home game against Bayern, where the team was awarded medals for winning the Bayernliga championship in the 2025/2026 season. Captain Lukas Rietzler was presented with the championship pennant and certificate.
However, FC Memmingen is under investigation for "violating stadium discipline" due to pyrotechnics used by away fans in a recent home game. Bayern fans are believed to be the culprits, but the game was not classified as a "risk game" but as a "green game." Away fans also left graffiti in the toilets of the stadium in the same game.
FC Memmingen has strengthened their squad in the summer transfer period, signing Christian Mijatovic, who has experience playing in the 3. Liga with SC Verl and SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. The summer transfer window closed last Monday for FC Memmingen, with Coach Matthias Günes stating that they trust their team and are giving opportunities to young players from their own youth ranks.
Lukas Rietzler and Philipp Kirsamer are absent from FC Memmingen's training this week. Fabian Kroh from the U21 team has been brought into the Regionalliga squad as a striker replacement for Kirsamer.
FC Memmingen's next game is a postponed derby against FV Illertissen on Tuesday. Tickets for both this game and the following home game against TSV Buchbach are available for purchase in advance at www.fc-memmingen.de/tickets.
This promises to be an exciting and historic match, with both teams eager to secure valuable points in their quest for survival in the Regionalliga.
