German Socialist Party Faces Two Major Setbacks Following Election
New Leadership in Neuss and Grevenbroich SPD
In a significant shift for the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in both Neuss and Grevenbroich, two new leaders have emerged. Rosemarie Franken-Weyers has been elected as the city association chairwoman of the Neuss SPD, while Arno Jansen has taken on the role of deputy mayor in Grevenbroich.
Rosemarie Franken-Weyers, a biologist with over 30 years of experience at a large American pharmaceutical company, joined the SPD in 2017. She has now taken the helm in Neuss, marking the first time in the party's history that it has a dual leadership. Sascha Karbowiak, who was the previous faction leader, has stepped down, having not run for re-election at the political Ash Wednesday.
Sascha Karbowiak's successor is none other than Rosemarie Franken-Weyers, who has emphasized the importance of understanding the needs and desires of the citizens. The new leadership is committed to continuing dialogue events, "kitchen conversations" in the districts, and the design of constituency newspapers, aiming to have the support of the citizens for their decisions, not to force anything on them.
In Grevenbroich, Arno Jansen has assumed the role of deputy mayor. Jansen, who found his way to the SPD at the age of 19, is also an economic promoter of the city. He mentions the 2022 action plan for allocating commercial areas, which includes rules such as the number of socially insured jobs, the ratio of built-up area to new jobs created, and traffic congestion considerations. The plan aims to address the city's financial issues by bringing in more business tax revenue through the development of new commercial areas.
The SPD leadership in both cities is focused on fostering open dialogue with the citizens to discuss these criteria and make decisions that best serve the needs of the community. This approach is expected to bring about positive changes and improvements in the cities of Neuss and Grevenbroich.
