The Togg T10X, a Turkish electric SUV, is set to make its maiden voyage to the IAA debut in Munich this summer. This vehicle, which has caught the attention of border guards in the Berchtesgaden region, is a Turkish alternative to the ID.4.

The T10X, designed by former VW design chief Murat Günek, shares similarities with traditional manufacturers like VW, rather than newcomers like Tesla or Chinese brands. It boasts a top speed of 185 km/h and a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds, making it a formidable player in the electric vehicle market.

However, the T10X's journey to Munich is not without challenges. The vehicle is expected to face six border checks during its journey, a testament to the complexity of international transportation of electric vehicles.

The T10X's battery, with a capacity of 88.5 kWh, offers up to 523 kilometers of range on paper. However, during its trip, it has managed around 400 kilometers in practice, a discrepancy that is not uncommon with electric vehicles.

The T10X's trunk offers a spacious 441 to 1515 liters, but it lacks a frunk (front trunk), a feature that is becoming increasingly popular in the electric vehicle market.

TOGG, the company behind the T10X, has a unique history. Founded in 2018 by the former Bosch manager Gürcan Karakas, it was established with the intention of addressing Turkey's long-standing advocacy for a Turkish Volkswagen. The former Bosch manager who initiated the founding of "Türkiye'nin Otomobil Girişim Grubu" (TOGG) is named Sözen.

TOGG has not only made its mark in car manufacturing but has also ventured into the digital realm. It has created a digital ecosystem with its own currency, industry-spanning bonus system, and web store where various services can be accessed, including booking flights, buying electricity, and paying taxes. TOGG's digital art and music features, while not completely unique, are more sophisticated than what is typically seen in the mid-range market.

In September 2023, TOGG will debut at the IAA in Munich, announcing the German launch of two models for 2026, which include the T10X and the T10F, a sedan that targets models like the VW ID.7. The T10X and T10F will be equipped with two Bosch motors and batteries with 52.4 or 88.5 kWh, priced around 41,000 euros.

TOGG's charging network in Turkey allows the T10X to replenish with up to 180 kW of energy, similar to Tesla. The navigation system of the T10X can find and operate most charging stations, making it convenient for drivers to travel long distances.

With over 1.5 million cars built on contract for companies like Fiat, Opel, and Ford, TOGG has a strong foundation in car manufacturing. However, it has yet to put its own name on a car, a milestone it is poised to achieve with the T10X and T10F.

Togg, under the charismatic leadership of Gürcan Karakas, positions itself as more than just an automobile company. It is a "smart device" that can also drive, a testament to the company's ambitious goals and innovative spirit.
