In a significant step towards sustainable mobility, Classic Tankstellen, a small chain of fuel stations primarily located in the north of Germany, has begun offering Klima Benzin 95 to drivers. This E10-compatible petrol, produced by Klima Kraftstoffe GmbH, boasts 95% fossil-free components, marking a potential game-changer in reducing CO emissions from traffic.

On 16 June, a fuel station near Bremen from the Classic chain became the first in Europe to dispense Klima Benzin 95. Lorenz Kiene, CEO of Klima Kraftstoffe GmbH and Classic Tankstellen, stated that this introduction is a step towards enabling sustainable mobility in everyday use.

The use of Klima Benzin 95 does not require any engine modifications in current ICE vehicles that run on petrol. Similarly, the use of Klima Diesel 25 and Klima Diesel 90, synthetic diesel fuels that Classic started offering in February 2023, does not necessitate any engine modifications in current ICE vehicles that run on diesel.

These synthetic fuels aim to significantly reduce CO emissions. Klima Diesel 25 and Klima Diesel 90 offer a major reduction in emissions for diesel-powered vehicles, while Klima Benzin 95 could reduce CO emissions by as much as 90% compared to 'full-fossil' E10 fuels.

The offer of low-emission fuels expands Classic's range of sustainable fuel options. This move aligns with the German automotive industry's favour for decarbonizing transport by developing e-fuels. The European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, has also explicitly approved the role of e-fuels in achieving climate neutrality, as outlined in July 2024.

Classic operates around 166 fuel stations, making it an appealing choice for fleets seeking to reduce emissions while maintaining operational flexibility. The company's use of green methanol instead of fossil resources in the production of Klima Benzin 95 further underscores its commitment to sustainability.

The use of Klima Benzin 95, Klima Diesel 25, and Klima Diesel 90 does not result in any loss of performance, making them attractive alternatives for drivers and fleet operators alike. As more fuel stations adopt these eco-friendly options, the potential for reducing CO emissions from traffic increases, moving us one step closer to a more sustainable future.
