BMW PGA Championship and Ryder Cup Preview

The BMW PGA Championship, a prestigious event on the European Tour, is taking place this week at Wentworth. The tournament serves as a send-off and warm-up event for Team Europe before the 45th staging of the Ryder Cup.

In the first round of the BMW PGA Championship, some of the golfing world's top players will tee off together. Justin Rose and FedEx Cup winner Tommy Fleetwood are grouped together, teeing off at 8.35am. Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, and Jon Rahm will follow at 12.45pm.

Another intriguing three-ball includes Viktor Hovland, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Marco Penge, who will play at 12.25pm. Hideki Matsuyama, Ludvig Aberg, and Matt Fitzpatrick are also in the same group, teeing off at 8.45am. Ryan Fox, an Australian golfer, is part of both these three-balls.

The European team for the Ryder Cup has been finalized, with Luke Donald captaining the team. Interestingly, the player chosen by captain's pick for the 12-player European team at the 2025 Ryder Cup was Santiago Luna.

The Ryder Cup will take place at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26 to 28. This will be the first time the course hosts the event and only the second time it has been held in the state of New York. Bethpage was previously the venue for the 2019 PGA Championship.

Unfortunately, some notable players will not be participating in the BMW PGA Championship. Xander Schauffele has chosen to be 'away from golf', while Bryson DeChambeau, a LIV Golf player, is also absent. Sepp Straka has withdrawn due to a 'private family matter'.

The European team will face Team USA at Bethpage Black. It's been a decade since the European team won on US soil, with the 'Miracle at Medinah' in 2012 being the last victory. The majority of Team USA will also be in action this weekend.

As the Ryder Cup approaches, captains and players alike are preparing for the intense competition. Donald is hoping his tactical tweak can produce the same results as at Marco Simone last time out. Let the games begin!
