This event, which attracts crowds of visitors to the government district, offers a unique opportunity for the public to gain access to the Chancellery, the Chancellor's Office, and various ministries.
Among the ministers interacting with visitors was Johann Wadephul, the Foreign Minister, who was seen engaging in conversation with people in his department. Thorsten Frei, the Chancellor's Office Chief, was also present, surrounded by people at the Chancellery and even posing for selfies.
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of vehicles from the German Armed Forces, allowing guests to get up close and personal with these impressive machines. For those with an interest in espionage, the Federal Intelligence Service offered a glimpse into their world.
Lars Klingbeil, the Federal Finance Minister, was also in attendance, answering questions under the open sky in the government district. A significant topic of discussion was the high costs associated with expanding the Chancellery, amounting to approximately 770 million euros.
Visitors were also treated to a variety of exhibitions, children's events, and music, making for a lively and entertaining day out. Notable absences included Friedrich Merz, the CDU leader, who was expected to join the event later. The event also saw the participation of other authorities and institutions, further emphasising the government's commitment to transparency and public engagement.
A helicopter, which the head of government occasionally uses, was stationed on the Chancellery grounds since Saturday, adding an air of intrigue to the event.
All in all, the Day of Open Doors of the Federal Government provided a fascinating insight into the workings of Germany's government, attracting thousands of visitors and offering a unique opportunity for public engagement.
