Government's Financial Department affirms that the aid given to Sara will stimulate the economy, as RM2 billion is allocated for small business owners.

The Malaysian government has announced the implementation of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) program, a one-time cash aid of RM100 for all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. This initiative is aimed at easing people's financial burden and stimulating domestic economic activity.

Starting from August 31, 2022, recipients can redeem their Sara assistance at over 7,300 premises nationwide, including nearly 2,000 small retailers, particularly in rural areas. The assistance can be used to purchase 14 categories of necessities, such as rice, eggs, cooking oil, and school supplies.

Each ringgit spent through the Sara program can generate up to RM2.43 in value within the business chain, making it a valuable tool for stimulating economic activity. Recipients are encouraged to plan their purchases and avoid peak times to ensure a smooth distribution of aid.

To maximise the impact of the program, those who can get by without the cash aid are encouraged to donate the items to authorities or community packages provided by supermarkets. This will help ensure that the assistance reaches those who need it most.
