New Police Commissioners and Government Inspectors Sworn In to Strengthen Safety in Dortmund

In a ceremonial welcome on an unspecified date, 115 new police commissioners and government inspectors were appointed to serve in the Dortmund police jurisdiction. Among them were 49 officers transferred from other authorities, and 8 government inspectors.

The new colleagues will be responsible for maintaining order and safety across over 500 kilometers of highways within the Dortmund region. They will also address themes such as combating extremism, child pornography, fostering dialogue and trust with a diverse society, and preventing public space crime.

Gregor Lange, the police president, emphasized the importance of earning public trust daily. He stated, "The rule of law functions based on public trust." Lange went on to say that qualified new talent is indispensable due to increasing demands and complex tasks.

On September 1, 2025, 341 police commissioner trainees and government inspector trainees began their dual studies. All appointed police commissioners had previously completed dual studies. These trainees will be entering combined academic and practical training programs in police and government auditing fields in Germany.

The new colleagues will reinforce the locations in Dortmund and Lünen, responsible for the safety of nearly 700,000 people. Within the framework of the "Focus" presence concept, officers will be more present in the city center and northern city center to combat public space crime and strengthen the security feeling of the Dortmund population.

Gregor Lange acknowledged that actions are critically examined in these times. He wished success to the new police commissioners and government inspectors, stating, "People seek closeness to the police in times of turmoil." Lange emphasized that actions must be taken to earn and maintain public trust, as the safety of the community depends on it.
