Group of individuals alleged to have physically attacked man diagnosed with autism on his bicycle in a public park, according to statements from his family.
Man Assaulted in Hessville Park, Hammond, Indiana
A 44-year-old man named Scott Lindsey was the victim of an assault that took place in Hessville Park, Hammond, Indiana, on August 15. The incident occurred while Scott was riding his bike home from work and stopped at a water fountain to take a drink.
Scott was attacked by a group of people who apparently perceived the incident as entertainment due to his vulnerability. The assailants verbally taunted and called names at Scott before physically assaulting him. During the attack, Scott's front teeth were knocked out.
Initially, Scott did not want to disclose the incident to anyone. However, he managed to call a witness who dialed 911 during the assault. Officers rushed to the park, but the attackers were not found.
Lindsey's family mentioned that he will require costly and extensive dental work due to the damage from the attack. His stepfather, Brian Beatty, finds it disturbing that someone involved in the attack recorded it and posted it on social media.
Sadly, other individuals joined the attack, and no one intervened on Scott's behalf. Scott works at a local grocery store and has been employed there for 14 years. In the aftermath of the assault, Lindsey has decided to avoid passing through Hessville Park in the future.
At the time of writing, there are no relevant sources that identify who recorded the video of the assault on Scott Lindsey and posted it on social media. The authorities are still investigating the case and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
