Gun Buyer in New York City Acquired Weapons from Vegas Casino Manager
In a tragic turn of events, a mass shooting occurred at 345 Park Avenue, the home of the NFL's headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, on Monday, July 28, 2025. The shooting resulted in the death of four individuals and left one critically injured. The shooter, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, took his own life after the attack.
Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, used a .223-caliber AR-15-style rifle manufactured by Palmetto State Armory in the attack. The victims included a 36-year-old off-duty NYPD officer working as a security guard (Didarul Islam), an executive at Blackstone Real Estate Investment Trust (Wesley LePatner), a 27-year-old Cornell graduate employed by Rudin Management (Julia Hyman), and a 46-year-old security guard (Aland Etienne). An NFL staff member was critically injured but later stabilized.
During the shooting, Tamura fired at several individuals, including an NYPD officer and security personnel. Surveillance footage showed him sparing a woman who passed by, and he fired shots at an NFL crest near the elevators, indicating a possible target of NFL employees. However, it appears that he inadvertently took the elevator to Rudin Management’s offices rather than the NFL headquarters.
Authorities found a note in Tamura’s possession mentioning chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain condition related to repeated head trauma common in athletes. The reasons for the attack remain unconfirmed, though unverified reports suggested possible frustration about not making it to the NFL.
Tamura held a concealed firearms permit issued in Las Vegas in 2022 valid for two years. The AR-15-style rifle was purchased from a supervisor at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. The identity of the supervisor has not been disclosed. The supervisor also sold Tamura a BMW that he used to travel to New York City.
Investigators found anti-psychotic, anti-epileptic, and anti-inflammatory medications, a suicide note addressed to his mother, 100 revolver rounds, and a single rifle round in Tamura's Las Vegas apartment. A revolver discovered in the vehicle was bought legally in a separate transaction in Nevada on June 12.
In Nevada, adults over the age of 18 can purchase a firearm without a permit, but all sales must include a background check. However, authorities have not confirmed whether a background check was conducted prior to the private sale of the rifle.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details may be released as the investigation progresses. In the meantime, the NFL and the city of New York are mourning the loss of their citizens and offering support to the families of the victims.
