Haiti highway accident claims life of Kenyan police officer, identity confirmed
In a tragic turn of events, Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, a member of Kenya's third contingent to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti, lost his life in a road accident on Sunday, August 30. He was 41 years old.
The incident occurred on the Kenscoff-Petion-Ville road at Perlerin 9, and Corporal Nzuve was pronounced dead on arrival at Lambert Sante Hospital in Petion-Ville.
The National Police Service (NPS) of Kenya confirmed Corporal Nzuve's death in a separate statement, but did not provide any further details about the accident. The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) also held a special service in honor of the fallen officer on Monday at their location in Haiti.
Born in Machakos County in 1984, Corporal Nzuve joined the National Police Service in 2005. He served with the Rapid Deployment Unit and was posted in Narok and Baringo counties before his final posting to Haiti.
Personnel from Kenya, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and partner organizations including DMG, Amentum, Aspen, and GardaWorld attended the service. The MSS also wished a speedy recovery to other officers injured in the accident, who are reported to be out of danger.
However, the NPS did not mention any plans for a funeral or memorial service for Corporal Nzuve in their statement, nor did they indicate whether his body has been returned to Kenya or if any arrangements have been made for his repatriation. His remains have been flown to the Dominican Republic for preservation before being repatriated to Kenya.
Corporal Nzuve's service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
