Hamburg's leading team, St. Pauli, triumphs over HSV by a margin of two points.

In an electrifying atmosphere at a sold-out Volksparkstadion, FC St. Pauli defeated HSV 0:2, marking their first Bundesliga home win against their rivals in seven years.

The match began with a running duel between HSV defender Jordan Torunarigha and FC St. Pauli's Hountondji, which resulted in a foul against Hountondji, as ruled by referee Christian Dingert in the 17th minute.

FC St. Pauli took the lead early, with Adam Dzwigala scoring with their first shot on goal in the 15th minute. The goal was set up by Miro Muheim and Daniel Heuer Fernandes.

HSV struggled to find their footing, and their search for the equaliser continued until the 49th minute, when Ransdorf Königsdörffer's goal for HSV was disallowed after a VAR review due to a marginal offside position of the shooter.

The second half saw FC St. Pauli extend their lead, with Hountondji scoring after a classy pass from Joel Fujita in the 60th minute. Four minutes later, St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj made his first serious save after a Muheim free-kick in the 53rd minute.

Despite having a numerical advantage following HSV's Giorgi Gotscholeischwili's red card in the 77th minute, FC St. Pauli failed to capitalise on more chances in the remaining minutes of the game.

Stefan Kuntz, HSV's sporting director, admitted that St. Pauli deserved to win. Louis Oppie, a St. Pauli midfielder, expressed joy over the victory. Oke Göttlich, St. Pauli's president, was thrilled with the derby win and praised the fans and team.

With the win, FC St. Pauli took the lead in the table with four points after two games. The newly formed HSV team is still waiting for its first goal of the season. The last game between HSV and FC St. Pauli was won by HSV in the 2nd Bundesliga in May 2024 with 1:0.

After the match, FC St. Pauli was at the top of the Bundesliga table overnight with 4 points after two matchdays. The victory will undoubtedly boost the morale of the St. Pauli team and fans, as they look forward to their next match.
