Handicap status granted after successful appeal in dream-sharing campaign, but individual remains ineligible for Cesarewitch event.

Horse A Dream To Share Allowed Appeal, Remains Ineligible for Cesarewitch

In a surprising turn of events, JP McManus's horse, A Dream To Share, has been given the green light to appeal its ineligibility for the prestigious Cesarewitch race, but will still not be able to compete in the event next month.

The horse, trained by John and Thomas Kiely, made headlines in 2023 when it won the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. Since then, it has been campaigning on the Flat this season, with a notable win in a Leopardstown maiden over 1m7f in June.

However, its ineligibility for the Cesarewitch, set to take place at Newmarket next month, is not related to its performance or training. Instead, it stems from a lack of a published rating on specific dates.

Initially, A Dream To Share was left ineligible for the race due to a decision by Irish handicapper Gary O'Gorman. However, the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) has allowed the appeal and remitted the matter back to the handicapper with the direction to allocate a handicap mark to A Dream To Share.

Despite this decision, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has clarified that A Dream To Share is still ineligible to run in the Cesarewich due to not having a published rating on August 19 or August 27, the dates when the weights for the race were published and the rating used for qualification was determined.

Connections of A Dream To Share lodged separate appeals with the IHRB and the BHA's handicap ombudsman, challenging the original decision not to give it a rating. The dispute was resolved, allowing A Dream To Share to receive a handicap mark.

As the appeals body provides its reasons for this decision in writing no later than September 12, 2025, racing enthusiasts eagerly await more details about this significant case.
