According to reports from the police in Itzehoe, a 21-year-old passerby sprang into action when a 73-year-old man, who is blind, fell over the edge of the harbour basin along the fisherman's pier.
The elderly man was using a rollator, an assistive device, at the time of the fall. The young man, without a moment's hesitation, jumped fully clothed into the harbour basin to rescue the man. He managed to bring the man safely back to shore.
Remarkably, another passerby retrieved the submerged rollator using a rope with a folding anchor. The initial examination showed that the rescued man appeared to be unharmed. This heartening incident serves as a testament to the kindness and courage of ordinary people.
