Harmful cosmetic items pulled from market - possible risk of respiratory issues upon use
In a recent development, a cosmetics manufacturer and a food retailer have initiated recalls for some of their products due to an undeclared allergen. The German food and product safety agency, lebensmittelwarnung.de, announced the recalls.
The cosmetics manufacturer, "Taris Tasfiye Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S.", has recalled the product Taris Limon Kolonyasi Eau de Cologne in the 300-milliliter bottle. This fragrance contains an allergen, benzyl benzoate, which was not listed on the product packaging. The company advises customers who are allergic to this substance to stop using the product immediately.
It is worth noting that contact allergic reactions to benzyl benzoate are rare but can occur in some people, especially those with existing allergies, asthma, or a history of urticaria (hives). Under strong sunlight, benzyl benzoate can form phototoxic substances that are irritating to the skin.
The recalled product was available in seven federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein. The recall affects all best-before dates. Affected products can be returned to the respective retail outlets for a refund, even without a receipt.
In addition, a spice sold at Netto is also being recalled. The details of this recall are yet to be disclosed, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
A popular snack is also part of the recall due to a contained allergen. The manufacturer has not been identified, and the details of the recall are still pending.
It is important to note that the product was sold on Temu, an online marketplace. Customers are advised to check the list of recalled products on the lebensmittelwarnung.de website regularly for updates.
The fragrance ingredient benzyl benzoate can cause local skin and mucous membrane irritations in sensitive individuals. If you experience any adverse reactions after using the recalled product, seek medical advice immediately.
Stay informed and be vigilant about the products you use and consume. Always check for recalls and ensure that the products you purchase are safe.
