Hartenfels Secures Position as Top Contender for BSW's Parliamentary Election
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is gearing up for its upcoming state election on March 22, 2023, with the BSW list led by Andreas Hartenfels taking a strong stance on several key issues.
Andreas Hartenfels, who received an impressive 98.7% of the delegates' votes at the state party conference in Kaiserslautern, will lead the BSW in the election. Hartenfels' leadership comes after a brief period under Sebastian Münzenmaier, who previously held the position.
The BSW has made it clear that they will campaign against rearmament and the militarization of politics in the state election. This stance reflects the party's commitment to peace and security, a value that resonates with many voters.
Healthcare is another critical concern for the BSW. Nurse Ariane Bügel-Darmoul, who came in second on the BSW state list with an impressive 91% of the votes, aims to ensure hospitals in Rhineland-Palatinate remain open and provide comprehensive care.
Affordable housing and public transportation are also key issues for the BSW. The party advocates for increased investment in roads to improve infrastructure and make commuting more affordable for residents. Additionally, they are committed to addressing the housing crisis by ensuring that housing remains accessible and affordable for all.
The BSW also calls for the state government to develop concepts to combat the shortage of general practitioners in rural areas. This is a pressing issue that affects the quality of healthcare in these areas and the BSW is determined to find solutions to address this problem.
Stephan Falk, the deputy state chairman, has been vocal about the inadequate funding of municipalities, despite rulings by the Constitutional Court. He calls for a thorough investigation into this matter and demands accountability from the state government.
Lastly, Falk has also criticised the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and has called for an investigation into the matter. This reflects the BSW's commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
Despite these strong positions, the latest polls show the BSW well below the five-percent threshold ahead of the state election. The party, with around 170 members in Rhineland-Palatinate, narrowly missed the five-percent hurdle in the last federal election. However, with a clear focus on key issues and a determined leadership, the BSW is hopeful for a strong showing in the upcoming state election.
