In the early hours of Sunday, May 11, an unfortunate incident occurred in Detmold, Germany. The artwork known as "The Red Sphere" was illegally moved from its anchorage at the Richthofenstraße/Anne-Frank-Straße roundabout.

The red spherical obelisk, weighing two tons, was rolled down Richthofenstraße and ended up 50 meters east of the Nordring's carriageway, where it became entangled in bushes.

The recovery of "The Red Sphere" took place ten hours after it was illegally moved. The Technical Relief Agency from Detmold and Bielefeld, along with local volunteers, worked tirelessly to retrieve the artwork. Timo Mar, who led the THW helpers, oversaw the lifting of the sphere onto a low loader.

Mayor Frank Hilker expressed his shock at the night's act, believing several hooligans were involved. He also expressed gratitude for the community effort in recovering the artwork. The police secured the scene of the incident and ensured the transportation of "The Red Sphere" to the city's works yard was under their protection.

The recovery of the artwork was conducted in the afternoon of the same day. The city's works yard is now the current location of "The Red Sphere". Mayor Hilker appeals to any witnesses to report their observations to the police, hoping to shed light on this mysterious incident.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the community's quick response and determination in recovering "The Red Sphere" demonstrates the power of collective effort. Mayor Hilker thanked all those involved in the recovery, emphasising the importance of preserving and protecting the city's art and cultural heritage.
