HBO revives a recognized actor from the original 'Harry Potter' film series in its latest production
The magical world of Harry Potter is set to return to our screens, as HBO prepares for the release of a new series based on J.K. Rowling's beloved franchise. The upcoming adaptation has generated significant interest and speculation amongst fans, with several casting announcements already made.
One of the most intriguing rumours circulating is the potential casting of Cillian Murphy for the role of Voldemort. Although the actor has denied these rumours, praising Ralph Fiennes – who played the dark wizard in the movies – as a legendary performer, he did express admiration for the opportunity and wished luck to whoever will follow in Fiennes' footsteps. It is important to note that the official casting for Voldemort has not yet been announced.
Another notable casting decision is the choice of Brid Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey, the school's head nurse, and Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns, the history of magic teacher. Warwick Davis, who played Professor Filius Flitwick in all eight Harry Potter films, will also reprise his role in the new series.
New faces joining the cast include Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash as Gregory Goyle. However, concerns have been raised about the long-term commitments required for the series, with some fans expressing reservations about older actors, such as John Lithgow (age 79), taking on such roles.
Ralph Fiennes himself suggested Cillian Murphy for the part of Voldemort, but the decision is not his to make. The role of Dumbledore has not been officially announced either, leaving fans eagerly waiting for more casting updates.
The casting process for the new Harry Potter series is ongoing, with many roles already filled and some still to be announced. Warwick Davis is the only original movie actor returning for the new series, as the role of Griphook – a character Davis played in the films – has been recast.
As the anticipation builds, fans can look forward to the new Harry Potter series on HBO, promising a captivating return to the wizarding world we all know and love.
