Heather Litteer, an actress and artist, translates her life of daring exploits and personal liberty into daring storytelling artworks
Heather Litteer, a performer, writer, and lover of life and people, is set to perform a series of autobiographical monologues titled "The Doors Just Keep On Swinging" at the Gene Frankel Theater on Aug. 29.
Litteer, who moved from Atlanta to New York City in 1990, has had an eclectic career that spans across various art forms. She is a storyteller, whether through her monologues, acting, poetry, or painting. Her self-taught education, she claims, came from her experiences at Jackie 60, The Big Art Group, and numerous clubs in NYC, including The Limelight, Palladium, Danceteria, the Tunnel, Save the Robots, Coney Island High, Pyramid, and Billy's Topless.
Litteer's career in mainstream acting includes notable roles in films by Jane Campion and Darren Aronofsky. Her work in Aronofsky's film, however, proved to be a mixed blessing.
In the '80s, Litteer was a teen model and later taught young girls how to walk down runways. She was also a dancer at Billy's Topless, a club described as a cross between "Cheers" and "Mean Streets." It was in these NYC clubs where she learned to love people for who they are.
Litteer's resume is impressive, with writing and starring in a one-woman show "Lemonade," creating and performing in a recurring cabaret variety show called "The Pleasure Seekers," singing in the East Village supergroup Rimbaud Hattie, performing site-specific performance art in Tompkins Square Park, creating a literary event for women, "WOeRD," and "On The Verge," a yearly arts festival that "highlights femme and non-binary artists."
Recently, Litteer toured all over the world, most recently performing in a musical in Berlin called "Oktoberfest." Her upcoming plans include a potential role in a cool independent film and a run in an HBO series.
For those interested in attending Litteer's performance, ticket information can be found at genefrankeltheatre.com/s-and-. For updates about her shows, follow Heather Litteer on Instagram at @heatherlitteer.
Litteer's performance promises to be a "coming-of-age story-middle age," a testament to her journey as an artist and a woman in the city that never sleeps.
