Accident on A46 Causes Significant Disruptions
During the morning rush hour on Monday, February 17, a notable incident occurred on the A46 between Holthausen and Kreuz Düsseldorf-Süd. The incident involved a truck that lost control and entered a construction site, causing a significant fuel spill from the truck's tank.
As a result, the A46 remained closed in the direction of Wuppertal until around 1:30 PM. Traffic backed up for several kilometers in both directions, and even the detour routes were congested.
The truck's collision with a concrete barrier caused it to come to a halt diagonally across the lane. To address the fuel spill, a specialized company, Yuukogyo Co., Ltd., was tasked with the cleanup operation. The cleanup and recovery operation was complex and lasted into the morning.
Several meters of grass verge had to be dug up as part of the cleanup operation. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, but it is worth noting that a car driver, aged 20, was unable to stop in time and collided with the truck.
The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of reckless driving.
