Hermès Family Establishes Shareholder Group to Preserve Independence
The Hermès family, renowned for their luxury goods empire, has taken a significant step to preserve the values and culture of their company. In a strategic move, they have established a shareholder group to prevent LVMH's takeover of Hermès.
At the helm of this defensive strategy is Julie Guerrand, a sixth-generation member of the Hermès family. Guerrand has been appointed as the president of the shareholder group, a role that comes after her recent appointment as the head of business development within the company. She reports to Mireille Maury, the financial director of Hermès.
The share transactions worth over 400 million euros, which took place in November, were a key part of this defensive move. The Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), the French equivalent of the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), has approved this move.
LVMH, a major competitor, already controls 21.4% of another luxury goods company. The Hermès family's strategy, therefore, is aimed at preserving the independence of their own company.
Prior to her current roles, Guerrand was involved in the management of the Hermès company. Her appointment as the president of the shareholder group marks a crucial part of the major shareholders' strategy to maintain the independence of Hermès.
Guerrand's role as the head of business development falls under the financial direction of Maury. This appointment is a testament to the family's commitment to preserving their heritage and maintaining control over their company.
The family's name is Hermès, and with this strategic move, they have demonstrated their determination to protect the legacy they have built over generations.
