High-speed collision during police chase
On the evening of August 21st, a high-speed police pursuit came to an end in the construction zone of the L336 between Alperbrücke and Eichhardtstraße entrance. The chase had begun on Dieringhauser Straße, as a Volkswagen Golf was pursued by police officers.
The incident started at approximately 22:37, when the Golf driver ignored signals to stop and continued towards Niederseßmar. The driver's reckless driving continued, with the vehicle colliding with a traffic sign and a tree on Friedrichstaler Straße, before the driver turned onto Rospetalstraße and ran a red light in Vollmerhausen.
Despite the police patrol car overtaking and slowing down, the driver refused to stop, leading to a dangerous high-speed chase. However, the 50-year-old driver from Gummersbach eventually surrendered without resistance.
Subsequent checks revealed that the driver did not have a valid driver's license, leading to the initiation of a criminal investigation. The driver's vehicle was seized following the arrest.
