High-Stakes Poker Pro, Daniel Negreanu, Discharges Three Shots in Million-Dollar WSOP Paradise
Poker Titan Daniel Negreanu's Crack at the $50 Million WSOP Paradise's Mega Prize Pool Left Him Short
Last night, Daniel "DNegs" Negreanu, the GGPoker ambassador, took on the day 1 online qualifier for the nail-biting $50 million GTD 'Super Main Event' happening this December in the Bahamas. Alas, his ambitious tilt for the $50 million bounty came up empty-handed.
Daniel was live-streaming from a beautiful hotel with a stunning view of Vancouver Bay in Canada, hoping to make it directly to day 3 and the money without setting foot on Atlantis Paradise Island resort. The unique hybrid structure for this cash-rich event consisted of a $5 million GTD online opener -- with a minimum of 30 spots guaranteed and a $20k bonus bagged by the qualifiers.
Although Negreanu doesn't exactly require the extra winnings, this lucrative bonus had everyone's attention:
- 14-night lodging in the Cove or Reef Suites at the upscale Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas
- A ticket to the Super Saver Invitational seat in the $1,000,000 GTD live bracelet event
- Complimentary meals, snacks, and access to the Players' Lounge
- A selection of WSOP Paradise merchandise
During the action-packed tournament, Negreanu delivered his signature blend of lively, instructive, yet occasionally tilt-inducing commentary, especially when the chips were down or bad beats occurred.
With excellent play early on, Negreanu built a promising stack, but it all came to a critical moment pre-flop after a couple of hours: "Ah, the classic confrontation for all the chips!" exclaimed Negreanu as his opponent showed up with queens...
Negreanu: A♠ K♠
Crescedno: Q♦ Q♥
An exciting and amusing flop unfolded...
Flop: 6♥ 4♠ 6♠
…but the turn and river were not in Negreanu's favor...
Turn: Q♣
River: 7♦
"Fok! We've been playing beautifully on the motherfcker semifinal...beep...son of a btch! What a runout," exclaimed a frustrated Negreanu. His disbelief and rage even made the Twitter highlight reel...
Undeterred, Negreanu bought in again for his second bullet, which was worth 50 big blinds. It seemed like a massive overlay opportunity for GGPoker, which needed 200 entries to break even with the $5 million guaranteed pot, but was falling short with less than two hours of late registration remaining.
Negreanu soon racked up additional chips, primarily by executing smart moves in preflop scenarios, where luck often plays a crucial role. He then expressed his frustration over a series of provocative donkey flips: "Listen up folks – flips, for the most part, determine your success or failure. We've played two huge donkey flips and … we've lost both!"
Moments later, Daniel found himself up against Leon Sturm's kings at the wrong time:
Sturm: K♠ K♦
Negreanu: 8♦ 8♣Flop: 6♠ 4♠ Q♣Turn: Q♠River: 9♥
Short-stacked and far from satisfied, Negreanu rebought one last time for his third bullet – this time, for 25 bigs. Despite GG Poker being just seven short of the GTD target, this final bullet offered little relief to DNegs: "Please let him have AK, and let me win a flip," he prayed, although the window delivered all the bad news he'd hoped to avoid:
Happydbd: A♦ K♦Flop: K♥ 5♣ Q♣Turn: 5♠River: 9♣"Rough day today...played brilliantly on this donkey bullet...," sighed a resigned Negreanu, although he'll undoubtedly aim for better results when day two of the GGPoker Million$ kicks off later today.
Unfortunate as it was, the missed online qualification doesn't prevent Negreanu from joining the other players out in the Bahamas for the highly anticipated 15-bracelet WSOP Paradise running from December 6-19.

Despite his exemplary play during the sports-betting-filled tournament, Daniel Negreanu's flair for casino-games, particularly poker, fell short as he lost against Leon Sturm in a critical pre-flop moment. Aspiring casino-and-gambling enthusiasts may find Interest in participating in lotteries or sports-betting at GGPoker, as DNegs unsuccessfully pursued the Poker Championship's prize pool in the Bahamas.
