High Stakes Poker Tournament in Monte Carlo, SHR, breaks previous record with imminent Main Event conclude
European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Kicks Off with Record-Breaking Entries
The European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo festival is underway, attracting a large number of players from around the globe. The EPT Main Event has seen 1,195 entries, which is nearly the highest ever held in Monte Carlo.
In the Main Event, David Docherty, a poker player from Scotland, finished on top of the chip counts on Day 1a. Despite being eliminated in 226th place, Docherty shared an insight about the psychological effect of bagging an overnight chip lead in poker tournaments. He stated that it can cause sleep disturbances and increased pressure.
Meanwhile, the €100K Super High Roller event has set a new high watermark with 74 entries. The final six players in this event were Leon Sturm, Mikita Badziakouski, Orpen Kisacikoglu, Seth Davies, Enrico Camosci, and the eventual winner, Christopher Nguyen. Nguyen won the biggest ever EPT Super High Roller event, receiving a prize of €2,022,000.
A deal was mooted but not made when only three players remained in the €100K Super High Roller event. Nguyen's victory marked a significant milestone, eclipsing the previous record set by the Asian Poker Tour (JOPT 2025) Main Event, which had over 4,000 participants and attracted over 50,000 visitors across 12 days.
In other events, Kayhan Mokri finished in second place in the €10,200 NLH Mystery Bounty event, receiving a prize of €148,600. Cesar Garcia won the €10,200 PLO event, while Mathew Frankland triumphed in the €2,200 PokerStars Open High Roller event. Remy Murcia won the €550 PokerStars Open Cup event.
The top 8 players in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event will receive six-figure payouts, with the winner taking home a prize of one million Euros. In total, 175 players will be paid in the Main Event.
The bubble for the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event is approaching, and the excitement is palpable among the players. The EPT Monte Carlo festival runs through to May 10.
