Highway Authority in Hamburg announces joint road safety initiatives for primary school children security and road safety in the Hamburg region. Press invitations have been issued for media representatives.
The Hamburg Police Department has announced the launch of the "Schoolbag Action 2025," a comprehensive safety initiative aimed at increasing awareness around school-going children. The event will kick off on Monday, 08.09.2025, at 9:30 AM, at the Winterhuder Carl-Cohn School.
The Schoolbag Action will take place at the Otto-Wels-Straße traffic light crossing, not at the Winterhuder Carl-Cohn School as previously mentioned. This action is part of the police department's efforts to ensure the safety of nearly 17,000 children starting school and around 10,600 more admitted to kindergarten classes in early September.
Over 27,000 children will start school or kindergarten in Hamburg on the same day. The increased number of young road users and their uncertain movements present particular dangers that require extra attention and consideration.
The Schoolbag Action will see students from three 4th grades distributing prevention flyers (schoolbags) to drivers at the Otto-Wels-Straße traffic light crossing. This distribution is part of the initiative's aim to increase safety around schools by raising awareness among drivers about the need for extra attention around school-going children.
The checks will focus on both stationary and moving traffic to increase safety, especially around primary schools. The police department will conduct these targeted checks from 09.03.2025 to 26.09.2025 as part of the comprehensive safety measures implemented by the Hamburg police department around schools.
Media representatives are invited to attend the kick-off event, but registration is required by Friday, 05.09.2025, 1:00 PM, at [email protected]. Participating in the event will be Senator Ksenija Bekeris, Enno Treumann (head of the traffic directorate of the Hamburg police department), and Dr. Franke from the Northern Accident Insurance Fund.
For press inquiries related to the Schoolbag Action, contact Laura Wentzien at the Police Department at 040 4286-56213 or [email protected]. For general information, the Police Department can be contacted at 040 4286-58888 or [email protected]. The Police Department's website is www.polizei.hamburg for more information.
The Schoolbag Action 2025 is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of Hamburg's schoolchildren. By raising awareness among parents, escorts, and drivers, the initiative aims to make the way to and from school a safer experience for all involved.
