Historian Carlos Alcaraz striving for groundbreaking financial showers
In the world of tennis, the US Open stands out as the most lucrative tournament on the calendar. This year, the tournament saw a historic moment as Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz secured the highest prize money ever at a World Ranking tennis tournament.
Alcaraz's victory, a hard-fought battle against Italy's Jannik Sinner with scores of 6:2, 3:6, 6:1, 6:4, earned him an impressive $5 million (€4.26 million). This surpasses the previous record held by Novak Djokovic, who earned $4,740,300 (€4.04 million) from the 2022 ATP Finals.
But Alcaraz's success at the US Open doesn't stop at the final win. His career earnings now stand at a staggering $53,486,628 (€45.61 million), breaking the record for the highest prize money earned by a tennis professional at a single tournament.
The US Open distributes more prize money than any other Grand Slam tournament, with a record amount of $90 million (€77.3 million) being awarded this year. Qualifying for the main draw is worth $27,500 for each professional, men and women.
Interestingly, the "Six Kings Slam" invitational show tournament in Riad, Saudi Arabia, offers more for tennis professionals. Jannik Sinner took home $6 million (€5.11 million) in 2024, and tennis stars receive $1.5 million just for traveling to the desert.
Alcaraz's tennis journey began at a young age. His first professional earnings came as a 14-year-old, with victories over Federico Gaio and Nikita Tatyanin at an ITF Future tournament in Murcia, Spain, bringing in $438.
The 22-year-old has since proven himself as a force to be reckoned with in the tennis world. Aryna Sabalenka, another tennis star, also made history this year by securing the same $5 million (€4.26 million) prize for her US Open win.
With his US Open victory, Alcaraz has solidified his position as a tennis legend, breaking records and setting new standards for future players to aspire to. His journey serves as a testament to hard work, determination, and the power of dreams.
