In a historic turn of events, the Lutyens bungalow, once the first official residence and headquarters of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, has been sold for a record-breaking price of ₹1,100 crore. This sale is set to be the most expensive residential property deal in India to date.

Located on Motilal Nehru Marg, the bungalow spans over 14,973 square metres and was Nehru's first official residence after India's independence. It was here that Nehru addressed the nation on August 15, 1947, marking the country's independence.

During his time living in the Lutyens bungalow, Nehru also visited Birla House at Albuquerque Road (now named Tees January Marg) to meet Mahatma Gandhi. However, Nehru moved out of the bungalow on August 1, 1948, and into Teen Murti house, which remains a memorial to him today.

Indira Gandhi or her family did not reside in the Lutyens bungalow while Nehru was living there. The identity of the buyer has not been revealed, but reports suggest it is an Indian billionaire from the beverage industry. However, recent updates have confirmed that the buyer is, in fact, Mukesh Ambani, a well-known entrepreneur from India's business sector.

The sale is at the final stage of the deal, with a law firm currently checking the legal details of the property. The bungalow has been a significant part of India's history, and its new owner will inherit a piece of the country's past.

Throughout his lifetime, Nehru lived in several different homes, including Anand Bhavan, the Lutyens bungalow, and Teen Murti house. Each of these residences holds a unique place in India's history, and the sale of the Lutyens bungalow serves as a reminder of the country's rich past and its continued growth.
