In a surprising turn of events, the rebranding of Cracker Barrel, a popular American restaurant chain, has stirred up a storm on social media, with many expressing disapproval. The official X account for the Democratic Party voiced its disapproval of the redesign, joining a chorus of critics.

At the heart of the controversy is the new Cracker Barrel logo, which does away with an illustration of an old man leaning against a barrel, a feature that has been a part of the brand's identity for decades. The new design, a text-only logo against a gold background, has been described as a callback to the original, rooted in the iconic barrel shape and word mark.

The redesign has sparked outrage among some conservative figures, with right-wing influencer "End Wokeness" suggesting that Cracker Barrel's CEO should face charges for the logo change. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson called the logo change "absolutely horrible." Rival franchise Steak 'n Shake also criticized Cracker Barrel for eliminating the "old-timer" from its signage.

However, not everyone is against the redesign. MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart expressed approval of the new logo, calling it "fine." He criticized the backlash against the redesign as "BS" and a waste of time, suggesting that real issues deserve attention instead of people losing their minds over a mere redesign. He implied that some MAGA supporters use it as a victimhood excuse.

Cracker Barrel's values, the company representative stated, have not changed. Uncle Herschel, the old man from the original logo, remains front and center in Cracker Barrel's restaurants and menu. The company has also remodeled the interior of its restaurants, adopting a cleaner, more minimalist theme.

The controversy has been linked to MAGA supporters and conservative-led boycotts, as reported by Gabriel Hays, an associate editor for our website Digital. Lindsay Kornick contributed to this report.

As the dust settles, it remains to be seen how Cracker Barrel will navigate this storm of controversy and whether the redesign will have a lasting impact on the brand's image.
