House Democrats Reveal Letter, Supposedly Penned by Trump, Connected to Epstein Case
In a recent development, Democratic members of the US House Oversight Committee have published an alleged birthday note that Donald Trump sent to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. The note, which is part of a "Birthday Book" compiled for Epstein's 50th birthday, has been a subject of controversy, with Trump denying he composed the message and claiming the signature is a forgery.
The documents, which also include Epstein's last will and testament, entries from his address and contact books from 1990 to 2019, and information about his known bank accounts, were received by the House Oversight Committee. The committee is investigating the sex-trafficking operation run by Epstein.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the existence of the entry by Trump in the book in July. However, Trump has sued several parties, including Dow Jones & Co., accusing them of libel and stating that the letter did not exist. A spokesperson for Dow Jones has stated that they have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of their reporting and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.
White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich has stated that the image is fabricated, while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has labeled the allegations as "fake news" and "the Democrat Epstein Hoax!" Trump has also denied composing the message to Epstein, and plans to continue aggressively pursuing litigation regarding the alleged birthday note.
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's former accomplice, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in helping Epstein sexually abuse underage women. Epstein died in jail, awaiting trial, in what US authorities have repeatedly said was a suicide.
Committee staff will review the new documents and make them public in the near future. The release of these documents is likely to fuel ongoing debates and investigations into the relationships between Trump and Epstein.
