House on Güstrower Island Suffers Fire Damage
A fire broke out in a boathouse used by a local sailing club at Güstrow Island Lake in the early hours of the morning. The fire has been ongoing since 08:45, and despite an immediate and extensive firefighting operation involving 68 firefighters, it has spread, causing significant damage.
Two firefighters suffered burns to their upper body and neck during the operation. They were taken to the KMG Clinic in Güstrow for further medical treatment. Thankfully, other boathouses or nearby allotments are not currently at risk.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and a specialist fire investigator from the specialist commission (Fachkommissariat) of the criminal police station in Kaufbeuren will be deployed tomorrow to further investigate the circumstances.
The criminal investigation department is currently on site to begin initial criminal police measures. The scene of the fire will be secured after the fire service has completed its operation.
