On the evening of May 4, 2025, a theft occurred on a regional train at Saalfeld station. A 27-year-old Pakistani passenger had his backpack and various items stolen during the train ride between Lichtenfels and Saalfeld.

The Federal Police in Erfurt launched an investigation into the matter, but the name of the head of the investigation unit remains undisclosed. Video recordings of the incident and the suspect were available, which aided the investigation.

The search warrant for the suspect's residence, located in Halle/Saale, was obtained from the Thuringian justice system. However, the suspect, a 44-year-old Cameroonian national, was not present during the search of his apartment on the morning of May 5, 2025.

Despite his absence, the backpack and some of the stolen items were found and secured in the suspect's apartment. The suspect is now facing charges of embezzlement.

The Federal Police are urging train passengers to take extra care of their luggage and valuables to deter theft. They remind passengers to keep their belongings close at all times and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
