Hyundai Increases Electric Vehicle Production for 2023 and Beyond

Hyundai Motor Company has announced its plans to boost the supply of electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia, aiming to sell around 3000 units in 2023. This represents a significant increase from the 700 EVs sold in 2022.

John Kett, the local Hyundai boss, shared this news in an email to customers, expressing his anticipation for more Australians to power their future with a Hyundai EV of their choice. To help meet the growing demand, Hyundai has added used IONIQ 5s to its stock of pre-owned cars.

The new-generation Kona EV is expected to join the lineup in late 2023, adding to the 3000 EVs that will be available for sale next year. The IONIQ 6, an electric sports sedan, was launched in March 2023, and the IONIQ 5 electric SUV will continue to be offered on an ongoing basis.

Hyundai's EV lineup is set to expand further in 2024, with the introduction of the IONIQ 7 SUV and the IONIQ 5 N. The IONIQ 7, a larger model, is scheduled for launch next year, and is a platform mate to the recently revealed Kia EV9. The IONIQ 5 N, which is likely to stir up interest, is yet to have its official release date confirmed.

The increased EV supply is due to a stronger stock position, enabling Hyundai to ship a mix of pre-ordered cars and built-to-order EVs in 2023. However, despite the increase in availability, John Kett admitted that there may be some disappointed people due to the limited number of EVs available in 2023.

In 2022, the entire Australian market saw 33,410 EV sales, with most going to Tesla. With Hyundai's increased EV supply, the brand aims to capture a larger share of the growing electric vehicle market in Australia.

Hyundai currently has approximately 30,000 people on its interest list for EVs, and with the thrilling back-to-back releases of the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, it's clear that the brand is committed to delivering innovative and exciting electric vehicles to the Australian market.
