Hyundai's Ioniq 5 prototype discovered in Australia, given a sneak peek - NEW INFO: Hyundai showcases its 'living area-inspired' interior design

The Hyundai Ioniq 5, the first car from Hyundai's new electric sub-brand Ioniq, is set to make a global debut without camouflage soon. This battery electric vehicle (BEV) model is poised to redefine the EV landscape.

At the heart of the Ioniq 5's design is the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), providing a robust foundation for its innovative features. The vehicle boasts an elongated wheelbase of 3000mm, indicating potential for ample interior space.

The interior design of the Ioniq 5 offers a spacious and customizable layout, designed to provide a comfortable space for both passengers and cargo. The centre console, known as the 'Universal Island', offers greater function than a static storage box, providing flexibility and convenience.

One of the standout features of the Ioniq 5's interior is the driver and front passenger seats, which come equipped with leg rests. This innovative design allows occupants to relax and recharge, adding a touch of luxury to everyday commuting.

The Ioniq 5 is initially expected to be offered with two electric motors producing 230kW, backed by a 58kWh battery. However, a larger 73kWh battery pack is expected to be available, increasing potential range to 550km. The vehicle is also suggested to have the capability for 800-volt DC fast charging, recharging the lithium-ion battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.

Simon Loasby, Head of Hyundai Style Group at Hyundai Motor Group, is responsible for the global design direction of the Ioniq 5's interior. Loasby's vision for the interior design is to offer an optimistic look at the new EV era, incorporating eco-friendly materials and textiles.

There are talks between Apple and Hyundai to build EVs, but further details are not yet available. If this collaboration materialises, it could mark a significant step forward for both companies in the rapidly evolving EV market.

The Ioniq 5 will arrive in Australia in 2021. With its innovative design, impressive performance, and commitment to sustainability, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is set to make a lasting impact on the EV industry.
