Hyundai's new electric vehicle model, IONIQ 6, boasts specifications similar to those of a subcompact Sonata; details reveal its size.
Hyundai's Upcoming Electric Vehicle, the IONIQ 6, Set to Boost Aerodynamic Efficiency
Hyundai Motor Company is gearing up to launch its latest electric vehicle (EV), the IONIQ 6. According to a report by the Korean Car Blog, the IONIQ 6 is expected to be Hyundai's sleekest EV yet, with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency.
The IONIQ 6, measuring 4855mm in length, 1495mm in height, and 1880mm in width, has undergone modifications to its architecture, resulting in a 50mm shorter wheelbase compared to its predecessor. The vehicle rides on a slightly shortened E-GMP platform, with a wheelbase of 2950mm.
Compared to the IONIQ 5, which was launched last year, the IONIQ 6 is 220 millimetres longer, 110mm lower, and 10mm narrower. This size increase is aimed at creating a more aerodynamic body for greater driving range.
Hyundai's design and engineering teams have been inspired by their "Art of Steel" design language, emphasizing aerodynamic efficiency and precision in the vehicle's sculptural surfaces and silhouette.
While an official launch date for the IONIQ 6 has not been provided, it was originally planned to be revealed in the first half of 2022. However, the car's size has grown by approximately 20mm in length from its original planned dimensions.
The IONIQ 6 is expected to use the same 72.6kWh battery pack as the IONIQ 5, providing a driving range of up to 450 kilometres in rear-wheel drive variants.
Hyundai's commitment to EVs is evident in its plans to cease development of internal combustion engine-powered vehicles by 2030. The company aims to become carbon-neutral by 2045, five years before a majority of legacy manufacturers.
In addition to the IONIQ 6, Hyundai plans to introduce the IONIQ 7, an SUV-sized model, in 2024. This move further solidifies Hyundai's position in the EV market.
As Hyundai continues to innovate and push the boundaries of EV technology, the IONIQ 6 promises to be an exciting addition to the company's electric vehicle lineup. Stay tuned for more updates on the IONIQ 6 and Hyundai's future plans in the EV market.
