In a significant move, BetMGM, a leading player in the iGaming industry, launched its online casino app in Pennsylvania on December 5, 2020 [1][2]. This marks the seventh state where BetMGM offers online gaming, joining New Jersey, Nevada, West Virginia, and others.

The entry into Pennsylvania's market comes without a tie to a land-based casino, setting BetMGM apart from some of its competitors [3]. The state's Gaming Control Board has issued a certificate for iGaming to qualified gaming entities, allowing BetMGM to operate legally within the state [2].

The partnership between BetMGM and Pennsylvania doesn't end with just the launch of the online casino. BetMGM has also partnered with the Pittsburgh Steelers, becoming the first gaming partner for the NFL team [3]. This partnership includes promotions, displays within Heinz Field, sponsorship rights for the pregame radio kickoff show, and television and radio commercials [3].

The online casino offers more than 140 different games, including an in-house progressive jackpot network [2]. Players can register for or connect their M life Rewards membership with their iGaming account in Pennsylvania [3].

Pennsylvania's online casino gaming has exceeded $1 billion in monthly wagers for six consecutive months as of October 2020 [3]. The state's gambling activity has generated approximately $63.7 million in tax revenue for Pennsylvania [2].

BetMGM's entry into Pennsylvania's market is not just about expanding its presence in the US. The state's gambling laws allow one sports betting brand (skin) per licensed casino operator, and BetMGM holds such a license in PA [3]. This opens up opportunities for BetMGM to venture into sports betting in the state.

In fact, BetMGM plans to launch sports betting in Pennsylvania "in the coming weeks" pending regulatory approvals [3]. Since the start of the 2021 fiscal year, Pennsylvania bettors have wagered over $7.8 billion on online slots and table games, including poker [3].

As of August 2025, BetMGM operates as one of the 11 legal and active online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania [1][2][3]. It is fully licensed and available for sports betting within the state, offering a broad range of sports markets and betting types both online and through its mobile app [1][3].

BetMGM remains a major player in Pennsylvania’s sports betting market, competing alongside other operators like FanDuel, DraftKings, and Bet365 [1][3]. The partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the launch of its online casino are just the beginning of BetMGM's journey in Pennsylvania.
